Carrefour Énergies, the French supermarket giant’s energy division, has been making significant strides in the country’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure since its launch in April 2022. The company has already equipped over 100 hypermarkets with EV charging terminals and has set its sights on adding another 200 stores to its tally by the end of 2023. By installing charging stations throughout the country, including urban and rural areas, Carrefour is making electric mobility more accessible to the masses and providing a new local service powered by 100% green energy.
To achieve this ambitious goal, Carrefour has partnered with two leading companies, Allego and Driveco, who are responsible for building and operating the charging infrastructure. Allego has already installed terminals for Carrefour hypermarkets for the past year and will be opening 100 new stations over the next 12 months. Meanwhile, Driveco has just started fitting out supermarkets and has opened its first two stations in Carrefour’s Vire and Estaires Market stores, with plans to have 600 by 2025, particularly in small and medium-sized towns.
“We are rolling out a network of charging terminals boasting a unique level of regional coverage, so as many of our customers as possible can use them,” said Arnaud D’HOOP, Director of Innovation and New Business.
Carrefour Énergies is providing users with a charging service for all types of mobility, from comfort charging to rapid and ultra-rapid charging, which can fully charge a battery in 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the vehicle type. The company is also offering charging solutions for soft mobility transport modes.
To maximize customers’ purchasing power, Carrefour Énergies is giving away one hour’s worth of 22-kW charging for all loyalty card or Carrefour PASS card holders, a customer benefit worth between €3 and €6. Since the first station was opened, the company has already given away more than 65,000 charging hours for free to users.
Carrefour Énergies is contributing to the development of electric mobility in France by deploying a network of EV charging stations. With its unique level of regional coverage and a range of charging solutions for all types of mobility, Carrefour Énergies is making electric mobility more accessible to everyone.
