BYD’s premium brand Denza has opened pre-sales for the updated D9 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in China, introducing new battery technology and expanded powertrain options.
The second-generation Denza D9 is priced between 389,800 yuan ($56,400) and 489,800 yuan, with both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric (BEV) versions offered at the same price levels. Show vehicles are expected to arrive in dealerships in April, with deliveries to follow.
The updated model features BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and flash-charging technology. According to the company, the system enables charging from 10% to 70% in five minutes and up to 97% in nine minutes, while offering improved performance in extreme cold conditions.
Customers placing orders during the pre-sales phase will receive 18 months of complimentary flash-charging access, consistent with incentives offered on other BYD models equipped with the new battery system.
The D9 PHEV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with dual electric motors, delivering a pure electric range of over 400 kilometres under CLTC conditions. The fully electric variant is available in single-motor front-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations, offering ranges of up to 750 km and 800 km, respectively.
According to CarNewsChina, the BEV version features a 340 kW front motor, while the all-wheel-drive configuration adds a 70 kW rear motor. The PHEV system integrates a 115 kW engine with electric motors producing 200 kW at the front and 45 kW at the rear.
All variants come equipped with Denza’s God’s Eye 5.0 advanced driver assistance system, which the company said will also be rolled out via over-the-air updates to earlier D9 models.
The MPV retains its business-oriented design while incorporating updates such as a redesigned front grille and full-width LED rear lighting. The vehicle measures 5,250 mm in length, with a 3,110 mm wheelbase, and features a three-row interior layout with aviation-style second-row seating, integrated displays and enhanced entertainment functions.
The launch follows the recent introduction of the refreshed Z9GT model, with Denza extending promotional benefits for that vehicle until May 31.
