Denza, the premium brand under BYD (OTCMKTS: BYDDY), opened pre-sales on Thursday for its new N8L hybrid SUV, a large six-seat model aimed at family buyers in China’s fast-growing premium plug-in hybrid market.

The N8L is being offered in two pre-sale variants starting at 319,800 yuan ($44,820) and 349,800 yuan. Slightly smaller than Denza’s flagship N9 launched in March, the N8L measures 5,200 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm, positioning it as a more accessible alternative within Denza’s lineup while retaining a strong focus on size and comfort.

Equipped with BYD’s e3 technology – a scaled-down version of its high-performance e4 system – the N8L features a three-motor setup with independent drive capability and rear-wheel steering. Its front motor delivers 200 kW, while two rear motors provide 180 kW each, combined with a 1,995 ml engine generating 152 kW. This hybrid system enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

The SUV uses BYD’s signature blade battery for plug-in hybrids, offering a CLTC-rated electric range of 230 km. With both a full battery and full fuel tank, the combined driving range reaches up to 1,300 km. The model also integrates BYD’s DiSus-A chassis control and a stability system designed to enhance safety in the event of flat tires.

In keeping with Denza’s positioning as a premium family brand, the N8L comes equipped with in-cabin features such as a rear-seat entertainment screen, onboard refrigerator, and integration with the DeepSeek AI large model. Its design also sets it apart from the earlier Denza N8, a hybrid SUV launched in 2023 and later discontinued.

Denza, co-founded by BYD and Mercedes-Benz, has been expanding its premium offerings in China’s competitive market. In August, the brand delivered 11,993 vehicles, up 20% year-on-year, led by strong sales of its D9 MPV.
