Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has launched the N8L, a large six-seat plug-in hybrid SUV under its premium Denza brand, targeting the family-oriented segment of China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market. The model is offered in two variants priced at RMB 299,800 ($42,210) and RMB 329,800, below the pre-sale prices of RMB 319,800 and RMB 349,800 announced last month.
The N8L measures 5,200 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm, making it slightly smaller than Denza’s flagship N9 SUV, launched in March. The vehicle emphasizes safety, comfort, and agile handling and comes equipped with BYD’s e3 powertrain, featuring three electric motors producing a combined 560 kW (751 hp), paired with a 2.0T engine delivering 152 kW and a thermal efficiency of 44.13 percent. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

The N8L is powered by BYD’s 46.99 kWh blade battery, providing a CLTC battery range of 230 km. Combined with a full tank of fuel, the SUV achieves a total range of 1,300 km. The model also incorporates BYD’s DiSus-A chassis control system and God’s Eye B smart driving system, supporting parking-to-parking assisted driving.
To attract early buyers, Denza confirmed that customers who purchase the N8L before November 30 will remain eligible for this year’s vehicle purchase tax incentives, even if deliveries occur in 2026. China’s current tax incentive expires at the end of the year, with next year’s subsidy set to drop by half.

The N8L follows several prior Denza SUV launches that achieved modest sales. The model is the first release under sales chief Li Hui, who replaced Zhao Changjiang in July. Denza’s previous N8 SUV, launched in August 2023, saw limited success, with monthly sales surpassing 1,000 units only once in September 2023 and remaining under 500 units in other months, leading to its discontinuation within a year. The N8L features a significantly updated exterior design compared with the former N8, signaling Denza’s renewed push in the premium NEV market.
