Yangwang Auto, a sub-brand of BYD, has been making waves in the automotive industry with its latest release, the Yangwang U8. This electric off-road SUV has been generating excitement and anticipation among car enthusiasts and industry experts alike. The U8 will make its official debut at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show.
In preparation for the event, Yangwang Auto has released official interior images of the U8, giving us a glimpse of what we can expect from this new SUV. The U8 is a premium off-road SUV that aims to compete with some of the best electric vehicles on the market, including the Mercedes G-Wagon or Hummer EV.
One of the most striking features of the U8 is its interior design. Despite being an off-road vehicle, the U8 offers a luxurious interior that could rival some of the most high-end cars on the market. The interior is draped in brown Nappa leather, and there’s a sky roof with a floating starry sky headliner that can be customized in different patterns. The interior theme, called the “Halo Cockpit,” is an apt description for the luxurious and comfortable cabin of the U8.

The U8 features a 12.8-inch Galaxy curved screen, a 23.6-inch instrument screen, and a passenger entertainment screen that pass through the back of the Galaxy curved screen. The center console is equipped with physical buttons and control levers, and there’s a wireless charging panel for convenience. The air conditioner outlets are placed on top of the center console, and the entire center console is almost occupied by the screen.
The U8 has been designed to provide a comfortable ride for all passengers, with rear-row passengers enjoying two 12.8-inch floating screens and a 22-speaker Evidence Series Hi-End audio system that provides a 3D immersive sound experience.

The U8 is equipped with a four-spoke steering wheel, with an auxiliary driving indicator light on top and the ability to adjust driving mode and terrain mode on the bottom. The SUV boasts four electric motors, with each wheel having a power of about 275 hp and 320 Nm torque, resulting in a total power of 1100 hp. This power allows the U8 to perform 360-degree tank turns and crab walking, adding to its already impressive off-road capabilities. Additionally, the U8 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds, making it a speed demon as well.
The U8 was unveiled in January as a “million yuan” car, and while the price is expected to start at 800,000 yuan ($110,000), it has not been officially confirmed. The U8 is expected to go on sale in August, and more details, including the price, will be revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show. It’s worth noting that the U8 sits on BYD’s E4 (Ysifang) platform, which is designed to support both pure EVs and PHEVs, further demonstrating BYD’s commitment to environmentally friendly technology.
