Chinese automaker BYD said it will introduce a plug-in hybrid version of its compact SUV, the Atto 2, to the European market in early 2026. The model will be offered in two variants, with the first deliveries planned for the first quarter of 2026.
BYD, which brands its plug-in hybrid models under the “Dual Mode-intelligent” (DM-i) name, said the Atto 2 DM-i aims to “redefine the compact SUV segment.” According to the company, the vehicle will deliver an electric-only range of up to 90 kilometres, which it describes as “a performance unmatched in this class.”

The automaker did not reveal full technical specifications, including battery capacity, charging performance, or detailed powertrain data. However, it confirmed that the new model will have a combined range of up to 1,020 kilometres and that the two PHEV versions will differ in battery size.
Design-wise, BYD said the Atto 2 DM-i will include several styling updates to distinguish it from the fully electric variant. “The car will feature subtle design tweaks to set it apart from pure-electric versions of the Atto 2,” BYD said in a statement. “These changes include a larger middle front grille, decorative lower elements in the front bumper, the removal of the side vents in the front wings and resigned badging on the tailgate.” The company added that a new exterior colour, Midnight Blue, will be available exclusively for the plug-in hybrid.

The Atto 2 DM-i will make its European debut this week at the Fleet Europe Days in Luxembourg before being “introduced to the media in November,” according to BYD. Pre-sales are expected to begin shortly afterward, with pricing yet to be announced. For comparison, the fully electric Atto 2 is currently priced from €31,990 in Germany for the 45.1 kWh version and €38,990 for the 60 kWh variant.
