BYD will launch its 1000V high-voltage charging platform in mid-March, with plans to introduce the technology to updated 2025 models and expand ultra-fast charging infrastructure, local media reported.

According to Auto Pixel, BYD’s new platform will support charging speeds exceeding 5C, allowing vehicles to gain 300 km of range in just five minutes. The rollout will begin with the company’s high-end models, including the Dynasty series. “The Han L and Tang L, which were teased in January, are expected to be among the first to adopt the 1000V charging technology,” the report stated.

Compared to the widely used 800V platforms, the 1000V system increases charging power by approximately 25 kW per 100V increment at the same current. High-voltage architectures also improve battery efficiency by reducing heat generation, which enhances longevity and supports higher motor speeds without requiring larger components.

Additionally, BYD is developing a pure electric architecture, codenamed BOX, to improve energy efficiency and system integration, according to the report.

BYD’s ambitions extend beyond 1000V technology. Leaked information from November suggested that the company is developing a 1500V high-voltage battery for electric construction machinery. The battery is expected to support a maximum current of 400A, deliver up to 600 kW of charging power, and have a lifespan exceeding 7,000 cycles with a maximum capacity of 2,500 kWh. It will utilize lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

The expansion of high-voltage charging technology comes as BYD reports a significant rise in global sales. The automaker delivered 614,679 vehicles in January and February combined, marking a 90% increase from 322,767 units in the same period last year.
