BYD said it will double its sales network in Cambodia this year as its first vehicle assembly plant in the country prepares to begin production in the fourth quarter.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker plans to expand to 13 sales showrooms and six after-sales service centers by year-end, up from seven showrooms and one service center currently operating in Phnom Penh, according to a company statement.
Its Cambodian factory, located in the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, will have an annual production capacity of 10,000 NEVs. The $32 million facility, occupying 12 hectares, is expected to complete construction in October, with the first batch of vehicles scheduled to roll off the production line in early November, local media outlet The Phnom Penh Post reported in April.
BYD has delivered 2,500 vehicles in Cambodia so far this year, marking the milestone with a celebration ceremony on Aug. 23. The automaker also plans to launch its Sealion 7 SUV and M9 MPV in October, following the introduction of the Sealion 5 and Atto 2 earlier this year.
BYD entered the Cambodian market in 2020, opening its first passenger vehicle sales center in Phnom Penh. The company said its new plant will enhance local supply capabilities and shorten delivery cycles once production begins.
