BYD has filed an updated version of its Seal 07 sedan for regulatory approval in China, with the new model growing in size and gaining more powerful drivetrain options across battery-electric and plug-in hybrid configurations.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) included three Seal 07 entries in its latest vehicle catalog released on Friday. The filings cover two battery-electric variants and one plug-in hybrid version.
Larger Dimensions Expand Seal 07 Footprint
The five-seat sedan measures 5,080 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,495 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm.
That represents a substantial increase over the current Seal 07 EV, which measures 4,995 mm long, 1,910 mm wide and 1,495 mm high, with a 2,900-mm wheelbase.
The dimensional changes give the updated model a longer body and wheelbase, potentially providing additional cabin and road presence compared with the version currently on sale.
EV Versions Gain Up To 300 KW
The updated Seal 07 EV will be available with two different electric powertrains.
The lower-output version produces up to 245 kW and has a curb weight of 1,975 kg. The higher-output variant raises peak motor power to 300 kW and weighs 2,060 kg.
Both versions have a top speed of 240 km/h.
By comparison, the current Seal 07 EV uses a single rear-mounted motor producing 240 kW.
The two new battery-electric variants use lithium iron phosphate batteries, which are expected to be based on BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery technology. The MIIT filing does not yet provide battery capacity figures.
Seal 07 DM-i Offers 245 Km Electric Range
The updated plug-in hybrid Seal 07 DM-i combines a 1.5-litre engine with an electric motor.
The combustion engine produces a peak 115 kW, while the drive motor delivers up to 160 kW.
The DM-i version has a top speed of 190 km/h and a curb weight of 1,960 kg.
Its lithium iron phosphate battery has a capacity of 38.029 kWh and provides an electric-only range of 245 km.
The combination of a relatively large battery and extended electric driving capability positions the updated DM-i as an alternative to the fully electric versions for buyers seeking longer-distance flexibility.
Updated Sedan Builds On Existing Lineup
The current Seal 07 EV was introduced in March with two variants priced from 169,900 yuan ($25,020) and 189,900 yuan. Both versions use a 69-kWh second-generation Blade Battery and offer a maximum claimed range of 705 km.
The 2026 Seal 07 DM-i was launched in September last year with four variants priced between 149,800 yuan and 186,800 yuan.
The updated model’s larger dimensions and revised powertrain options suggest BYD is broadening the Seal 07’s positioning within China’s competitive mid-to-large-size sedan market.
With the latest filing, BYD is preparing to offer buyers a choice between higher-output battery-electric powertrains and a plug-in hybrid system with a 245-km electric range, although pricing and launch timing for the revised versions have not yet been announced.
