BYD has revealed the technical specifications of its highly anticipated Denza Z electric sports car, confirming that the high-performance model will deliver up to 1,180 kW of peak power and achieve a top speed of up to 350 km/h in its most powerful configuration.
The all-electric supercar, which made its global debut at Auto China in April, is scheduled to launch in China in July under BYD’s premium Denza brand.
Available as both a convertible with a retractable soft top and a roadster featuring a removable hardtop, the Denza Z represents one of the most powerful production vehicles ever developed by the Chinese automaker.
Triple-Motor Powertrain Delivers 1,582 PS
According to Chinese homologation data, the Denza Z produces a combined system output of 1,180 kW, equivalent to 1,582 horsepower.
Power is generated by a three-motor drivetrain consisting of a 500 kW electric motor on the front axle and two rear-mounted electric motors delivering a combined 680 kW.
The total output exceeds the performance figures of several established electric performance models, including the latest Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, which offers up to 860 kW.
BYD had previously indicated that the Denza Z would produce more than 1,000 PS, but the final specification significantly surpasses that figure.
Designed as a High-Performance Electric Sports Car
The Denza Z measures 4.78 metres in length, 1.99 metres in width and 1.35 metres in height, with a wheelbase of 2.78 metres.
Despite its sports car proportions, the vehicle features a four-seat layout.
BYD said the model was designed by an international team led by design chief Wolfgang Egger and described the vehicle as a showcase for the company’s latest design and engineering capabilities.
“The electrified super sports car represents the fusion of technology and design perfection, characterised by a pure aesthetic built on a world-leading technical architecture,” the company said during its presentation.
Advanced Technology Package
The Denza Z features a carbon-fibre body structure and incorporates BYD’s DiSus-M body control system, which is designed to enhance handling, ride comfort and vehicle stability.
Energy is supplied by the company’s latest Blade Battery 2.0 technology, while support for Flash Charging is intended to reduce charging times.
BYD said the vehicle has already undergone testing on Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife and has participated in lap record attempts as part of its development programme.
The company also confirmed that the Denza Z will appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom later this year.
Up to 350 km/h with Performance Package
Standard versions of the Denza Z are capable of reaching a top speed of 300 km/h.
A higher-performance variant equipped with a dedicated sports package increases maximum speed to 350 km/h.
Rather than using more powerful motors, the enhanced performance is achieved through aerodynamic upgrades, including a large rear wing that generates additional downforce and improves high-speed stability.
Potential European Expansion
The Denza Z will initially be launched exclusively in China, but a future European introduction remains possible as Denza expands its presence across the region.
The premium brand recently opened its first standalone showroom in Hamburg, Germany, with additional locations planned in Cologne and Frankfurt.
BYD intends to establish approximately 40 Denza retail outlets and at least 80 service centres across Germany by the end of the year.
The first Denza models scheduled for the German market are the all-electric Z9GT grand tourer and the D9 dm-i plug-in hybrid van.
As BYD continues to expand its premium vehicle portfolio, the Denza Z is expected to serve as a technological flagship that highlights the company’s ambitions in the global high-performance electric vehicle segment.
