BYD is preparing to launch a new flagship luxury sedan in China, with regulatory filings revealing key specifications of the upcoming Great Han, a premium limousine that will be available in both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants.
Documents published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) show that the new model will offer up to 570 kW of power and a driving range of up to 1,008 kilometres under the CLTC testing standard.
The Great Han, also referred to as the Dahan in some Chinese media reports, is expected to enter the Chinese market later this year as BYD expands its presence in the premium electric vehicle segment.
Up to 570 kW in All-Wheel-Drive Form
According to the homologation documents, the entry-level battery-electric version will feature a single-motor powertrain producing 370 kW and delivering a CLTC range exceeding 1,000 kilometres.
A more powerful all-wheel-drive variant is also planned, combining dual motors for a total output of 570 kW. This version is expected to offer a CLTC range of up to 880 kilometres.
While BYD has confirmed the use of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, detailed battery specifications have not yet been disclosed.
Plug-In Hybrid Variant Planned
Alongside the battery-electric models, BYD will offer the Great Han as a plug-in hybrid.
The hybrid version combines a 200 kW electric motor with a 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline engine and is expected to deliver an electric-only driving range of up to 370 kilometres under the CLTC cycle.
The move reflects BYD’s strategy of offering both fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains across its premium vehicle portfolio.
Large Luxury Sedan
The Great Han will be positioned as one of BYD’s largest passenger vehicles.
The sedan measures 5.26 metres long, 2.0 metres wide and 1.51 metres high, riding on a wheelbase of 3.13 metres. Depending on the configuration, curb weight ranges from approximately 2.2 tonnes to 2.5 tonnes.
The model adopts BYD’s latest “Loong Face” design language, featuring slim headlights, a chrome-accented front grille and vertically oriented air intakes. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor positioned above the windshield highlights the vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance capabilities.
Customers will be able to choose from various 20-inch and 21-inch wheel designs.
Part of BYD’s Expanding Premium Strategy
The Han and Tang nameplates have played a key role in BYD’s rise within China’s premium new-energy vehicle market.
In 2025, the company introduced the Han L and Tang L models based on its latest 1,000-volt architecture. The upcoming Great Han and Great Tang will further expand the lineup and are expected to incorporate BYD’s Flash Charging technology.
According to Chinese media reports, the Great Tang SUV is expected to launch ahead of the Great Han. The SUV has reportedly generated strong market interest, with reports indicating more than 100,000 orders were received within two weeks of its introduction.
Domestic Competition Intensifies
Despite continued expansion of its model portfolio, BYD faces increasing competition in China’s electric vehicle market.
Sales data show that the standard Han recorded 3,390 deliveries in May, while the newer Han L achieved 689 deliveries during the same month.
Although BYD’s domestic sales have recently trailed year-earlier levels, the company has maintained strong overall growth thanks to rapidly expanding exports, which have become an increasingly important driver of its global business.
The Great Han is expected to strengthen BYD’s position in the luxury EV segment as the company continues to broaden its range of high-performance electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
