China’s BYD said cumulative deliveries of its BYD- and Denza-branded new energy vehicles in Hong Kong have surpassed 20,000 units within three years, underscoring the automaker’s growing presence in one of Asia’s most competitive electric vehicle markets.

The milestone was marked this week with the delivery of a Denza D9 to local celebrities Moses Chan and Aimee Chan at Denza’s flagship store in Kowloon Bay, BYD said.

BYD entered the Hong Kong market in 2022 and has since recorded steady growth. In the first three quarters of 2025, the company sold 6,878 electric vehicles in the city, up 40.86% from a year earlier. During the first half of the year, BYD overtook Tesla to become Hong Kong’s best-selling EV brand, capturing a 27% market share.

From January to November, BYD sold 8,531 vehicles in Hong Kong, giving it a 22.7% share of the market and placing it ahead of Tesla and Zeekr, according to the latest figures. The BYD Sealion 07 EV was the city’s best-selling model over the period, while the Yuan UP ranked fourth.

On the retail side, BYD has established 15 sales and service locations across Hong Kong, including 10 showrooms and five after-sales centres, with further expansion planned.
