Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has appointed Lars Bialkowski as its new Country Manager for Germany, effective June 1, 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening its management team in the key European market.
Bialkowski, 53, joins BYD following his tenure as Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Stellantis in Germany. He left Stellantis in late 2024 amid a broader management reshuffle and brings extensive experience from previous roles at Nissan and Renault.
Maria Grazia Davino, Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director at BYD Europe, described Bialkowski’s appointment as a milestone that will enhance continuity and accelerate BYD’s growth trajectory in Germany. She said the addition of a manager with “proven 360-degree expertise” is critical to supporting both customers and dealers as the company expands its presence.
After a challenging 2024, BYD’s performance in Germany has gained momentum, with 2,793 new registrations reported in the first four months of 2025, nearly matching the total for the entire previous year. The launch of the competitively priced Dolphin Surf small electric car, starting at 19,990 euros, is expected to further boost sales.
In recent months, BYD has reorganized its German leadership, appointing Patrick Schulz as Sales Director in February and announcing the hiring of Hyundai veteran Kai Schröder in May to grow the dealer network. Davino aims to establish 120 sales points across Germany by the end of the year, underlining the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the European electric vehicle market.
