BYD, China’s leading new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has just introduced its updated plug-in hybrid sedan, the Qin Plus DM-i 2023, in five different versions.
With a starting price range from RMB 99,800 ($14,650) to RMB 145,800, this is the first time that BYD has made a model with its DM-i powertrain available for less than RMB 100,000. The model measures 4,765 mm in length, 1,837 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,718 mm.
Powered by a 1.5L engine with a maximum output of 81 kW and 135 Nm of torque, the Qin Plus DM-i 2023 also features a permanent magnet synchronous motor with 132 kW of power and 316 Nm of torque. The model comes equipped with a DM-i super hybrid-specific blade battery, with two capacity options of 8.32 kWh and 18.32 kWh, offering an NEDC battery range of 55 km and 120 km respectively.
With a full fuel and charge, the Qin Plus DM-i 2023 has an NEDC range of up to 1,245 km and a fuel consumption of just 3.8L per 100 km at low charge. BYD has stated that the aim of this model is to disrupt the conventional fuel car market.
The Qin family, including the Qin Plus DM-i and Qin Plus EV, has been among the top contributors to BYD’s monthly sales. In January of this year, BYD sold 151,341 NEVs, with 14,185 units of the Qin family, and the BYD Qin was the fourth best-selling sedan in China in 2022, selling 341,943 units, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association.
This significant increase from the previous year’s sales of 188,921 units, highlights the growing popularity of BYD’s NEV models and the company’s commitment to revolutionizing the automotive industry.
