Chinese automaker BYD has officially launched its Atto 2 electric SUV in the United Kingdom, with prices starting at £30,850 ($41,500) on-the-road (OTR), the company said on Tuesday. The move expands BYD’s European lineup between the smaller Dolphin and larger Atto 3 SUV models.
The Atto 2 is offered in two trims: Boost and Comfort. The base Boost model features a 51.1 kWh BYD Blade battery, providing up to 214 miles of range, with city driving estimated at 302 miles per charge. The higher-spec Comfort model includes a 64.8 kWh battery, delivering up to 261 miles of range, and is priced from £34,950 ($47,000). BYD said the SUV supports 155 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 30% to 80% recharge in approximately 21 minutes.
All models come equipped with a 12.8-inch floating touchscreen, wireless smartphone charger, “Hi BYD” AI voice control, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, allowing users to power devices such as a coffee maker or lawnmower. Measuring 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,675 mm tall, the Atto 2’s e-Platform 3.0 design offers increased interior space with an extended wheelbase, comparable in size to premium competitors like the Volvo EX30.
The Boost trim is available to order immediately, while the Comfort model will arrive later this year, with deliveries expected to begin in September. BYD’s pricing undercuts models including the Hyundai Kona Electric (£34,995) and is positioned to compete with premium vehicles such as the Volvo EX30, according to Autocar.
BYD’s Atto 2 was first introduced in China last year and in Hong Kong earlier this month, where it undercut Tesla’s most affordable model by approximately 30%. The launch in the UK marks the company’s continued push into the European electric vehicle market.
