Fang Cheng Bao, a subsidiary of BYD, is gearing up for a significant brand and technology launch event scheduled for August 16. The announcement, shared through the company’s official Weibo account, has sparked anticipation regarding the unveiling of the much-anticipated Leopard 5, which is believed to be an SUV and Fang Cheng Bao’s inaugural model.

Despite the heightened interest surrounding the upcoming event, Fang Cheng Bao has maintained a veil of secrecy, leaving automotive enthusiasts eager for more details. The teaser poster associated with the announcement prominently features an SUV, presumably offering a glimpse of the Leopard 5.

The anticipation surrounding the Leopard 5 has been building since its name was officially unveiled by BYD on June 9. Subsequent developments have indicated that the first model under the Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand will indeed be the Leopard 5. The vehicle is projected to occupy a price range between RMB 400,000 ($55,283) and RMB 600,000, expanding BYD’s market coverage beyond its current focus on the sub-RMB 300,000 segment.

The run-up to the launch of the Fang Cheng Bao brand has been a meticulously orchestrated affair, with the company releasing hints and glimpses of the Leopard 5 over the past months. Intriguingly, in March, CnEVPost shared spy photos of the model adorned with the enigmatic digits “2316,” each digit holding a significant meaning. The “2” symbolizes dual motors, while the “3” points to triple locks. The “1” signifies the adoption of a new platform, and the “6” was a nod to the planned June release, as revealed by CnEVPost.

However, a twist emerged in June when Fang Cheng Bao shared an image featuring the modified digits “2318” on the vehicle. This alteration suggests a delay in the anticipated release, pushing it from the previously slated June to the upcoming August timeframe.

Building on the growing excitement, Fang Cheng Bao offered enthusiasts a closer look at the Leopard 5’s exterior details on July 21 through a video shared on Weibo. It’s worth noting that while the forthcoming event promises insights into the brand and technology, the official launch of the Leopard 5 might occur at a later juncture.
