BYD has introduced the Sealion 06 SUV, the latest model in its Ocean lineup, as the Chinese new energy vehicle maker continues to grow its presence in the hybrid and all-electric vehicle segments.
The launch brings both the Sealion 06 DM-i plug-in hybrid and the Sealion 06 EV to market, each available in three variants.
The hybrid Sealion 06 DM-i is priced from RMB 139,800 ($19,540), while the all-electric Sealion 06 EV starts at RMB 149,800. The SUV measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm—slightly larger than the Sealion 05, which debuted earlier this year.
The Sealion 06 DM-i features BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid system, introduced in May 2024, which is designed to enhance fuel efficiency. It pairs a 1.5-liter engine generating 74 kW with a 160 kW electric motor. Two battery options are offered for the PHEV: 18.3 kWh and 26.6 kWh, providing electric-only ranges of 121 km and 170 km, respectively.
The Sealion 06 EV, based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo, offers a choice between single-motor and dual-motor configurations. The single-motor version delivers either 170 kW or 180 kW of power, while the dual-motor variant combines 110 kW and 180 kW motors for improved performance.
Battery options include 65.28 kWh and 78.72 kWh packs, supporting driving ranges of 520 km, 550 km, or 605 km. The Sealion 06 joins an expanding family that includes the Sealion 07 EV, Sealion 07 DM-i, and Sealion 05 models.
