BYD’s energy storage division has signed an agreement with Greenvolt Power to jointly develop a 600 MW/2.4 GWh battery energy storage project in Poland, further expanding the Chinese company’s presence in Europe’s rapidly growing utility-scale energy storage market.
According to BYD, the Siedlce project will become the largest battery energy storage installation in Poland once it enters commercial operation.
Poland Project Expands Strategic Partnership
The Siedlce project represents the second collaboration between BYD Energy Storage and Greenvolt Power in Poland.
The companies previously partnered on two local battery storage projects with a combined capacity of 1.6 GWh.
Construction of the new facility is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with commercial operations expected to commence by the end of 2027.
BYD to Supply Haohan Energy Storage System
BYD Energy Storage will provide its Haohan battery energy storage system for the project.
The system incorporates BYD’s 2,710 Ah Blade Battery, which the company says is specifically designed for utility-scale energy storage applications.
According to BYD, each unit offers a minimum capacity of 14.5 MWh while delivering energy density equivalent to 10 MWh within a standard 20-foot container, helping reduce land use and construction costs through a more compact installation footprint.
Supporting Europe’s Energy Transition
Greenvolt Group Chief Executive Officer João Manso Neto said battery storage plays a critical role in improving grid flexibility while supporting the continued expansion of renewable energy generation.
Yin Xueqin, General Manager of BYD’s Energy Storage and New Battery Division, described the Siedlce development as an important milestone in the companies’ partnership.
He said the project demonstrates growing industry recognition of BYD’s energy storage technology and system integration capabilities.
Global Energy Storage Expansion Continues
BYD entered the energy storage business in 2008 and has since deployed utility-scale storage projects in more than 110 countries and regions.
The Poland project follows another recent collaboration between BYD and Greenvolt Power that resulted in the commissioning of Hungary’s largest battery energy storage facility, a 99.8 MW/288.6 MWh installation using BYD’s MC Cube energy storage system.
The agreement also reflects the broader international expansion of Chinese battery manufacturers, as companies continue increasing investments in overseas energy storage projects to meet growing demand for grid-scale renewable energy infrastructure.
