General Motors is gearing up for the launch of its first all-electric model under the Buick brand in China. The Electra E5, a five-seat all-electric SUV, will debut on April 13th and is set to be one of the most anticipated EV offerings from a foreign brand in China.
The Electra E5 will come in standard, long-range, and Avenir four-wheel-drive versions. The Avenir version will feature an Ultium 8-in-1 electric drive system with a permanent magnet synchronous motor in the front and an induction asynchronous motor in the rear, providing the vehicle with a capacity of 80 kWh and a range of up to 620 km.
This highly anticipated vehicle is not only environmentally friendly, but also features some of the latest technological advancements. The Electra E5 is equipped with the new generation Virtual Cockpit System (VCS) and Buick eConnect network connectivity technology, which will enable users to stay connected on the go.
In addition, the Electra E5 features the Pure Design concept which offers a sleek and modern exterior design. The model measures 4,892 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width and 1,655 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,954 mm. Its power battery is a ternary lithium battery, which has a capacity of 68.4 kWh and will give the vehicle a CLTC range of 545 km.
This vehicle was included in a list of approved EV models released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology last November, generating a lot of buzz around its release. Buick began warming up for the Electra E5 last December, with the first pilot vehicles rolling off the line at the Ultium plant in Wuhan, Hubei province, central China.
