If you’re a fan of BMW’s design direction with the Neue Klasse concepts but are less thrilled by the electric powertrains, there’s good news. The Bavarian brand plans to roll out this new styling language across all future models—EVs, hybrids, and even traditional internal combustion engines (ICE).
The next generation of BMWs will not only feature a similar look but will also share high-tech, futuristic features, ensuring a nearly identical user experience regardless of what’s under the hood. This revelation came from Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group’s design chief, who stated that every future BMW will embrace the Neue Klasse design language. While there may be “some proportional differences on the exterior and a little on the interior” between EVs and ICE models, the overall “look and feel” will remain consistent.
In an interview with Top Gear, van Hooydonk explained, “The big push with EVs, these technologies, and this design language will transfer over the entire product portfolio, including our combustion vehicles.” This means customers can expect a unified design across different powertrains while still retaining a unique character for each model.
The first production model adopting this design will be the battery-powered BMW iX3, set to arrive in 2025, closely resembling the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. Following that, the production version of the Vision Neue Klasse sedan will debut in 2026, with four additional EVs joining the lineup over the next two years.
Van Hooydonk also highlighted the interior’s advancements, including a new center touchscreen with a unique shape and a focus on sustainable materials. He noted that the production models will closely resemble the concepts, promising a compact and refined aesthetic. “You know how close the i3 and i8 were to their concept cars; that’s what’s going to happen here,” he stated.
