BMW Group UK saw a significant increase in fully electric vehicle (BEV) sales in 2022, with 28,903 registrations representing an 11% share of the overall UK BEV market, compared to 7.2% in 2021.
BMW’s BEV sales alone tripled from the previous year to 21,480, making it the fastest-growing BEV brand in the UK. When plug-in hybrid (PHEV) registrations are included, BMW reached a total of 38,045, meaning one in three BMWs sold in 2022 had a plug.
This growth was largely driven by the success of new products such as the BMW i4 and iX, as well as strong sales of the iX3 and i3.
MINI also performed well in the electric sector, with the MINI Electric accounting for 7,423 registrations and making up 25% of all MINI Hatch models. When the MINI Countryman PHEV is included, one in five MINIs sold in 2022 had a plug.
āDespite a particularly challenging environment, we have achieved a strong sales performance in 2022 and have seen significant order banks build up across the range. With an 11 per cent share of the overall BEV market, BMW was the fastest growing brand in the sector. This has been driven not only by a product line-up which has tremendous appeal but also thanks to the extraordinary commitment and performance from both our retailer network and our UK employeesā, said Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group UK. āWith the just-launched BMW iX1 and i7 now fully available, we expect further strong growth in sales of all-electric vehicles in 2023, with new models on the way including the BMW i5ā.
