BMW has reduced prices for selected versions of its iX1 and iX2 electric SUVs in the United Kingdom, allowing the models to qualify for the government’s highest Electric Car Grant (ECG) funding tier.
The move makes BMW the first premium German automotive brand to secure eligibility for the full £3,750 government incentive under the revised grant scheme.
Price Cuts Unlock Government Incentives
The Electric Car Grant applies to the BMW iX1 eDrive20 and iX2 eDrive20 variants, including the recently introduced iX2 eDrive20 Sport.
Following the price adjustment, the BMW iX1 eDrive20 Sport now has a recommended retail price of £37,065 before the government grant, compared with £43,555 previously. After applying the £3,750 incentive, the model is available from £33,315.
The BMW iX2 eDrive20 Sport carries the same pricing, while the iX1 eDrive20 xLine is available from £35,315 after the grant. The iX1 eDrive20 M Sport and iX2 eDrive20 M Sport are both priced from £38,065 after the incentive.
BMW noted that the revised pricing positions the iX1 eDrive20 Sport below the comparable petrol-powered X1 sDrive20i Sport, which starts at £37,540.
BMW Highlights Accessibility and Sustainability
Debbie McIntosh, Sales Director at BMW UK, said qualifying for the government’s highest incentive level is expected to make the company’s electric vehicles more accessible to a wider range of customers.
“Securing the full Electric Car Grant for the BMW iX1 and BMW iX2 is an important step in making premium electric mobility more accessible to customers across the UK.”
She added that the two electric SUVs combine driving performance, practicality and everyday usability for buyers considering a battery-electric vehicle.
BMW said eligibility for the highest grant band also reflects the company’s manufacturing and sustainability initiatives, including its commitments under the Science Based Targets initiative and its use of renewable electricity during vehicle production.
At BMW’s Regensburg plant in Germany, where the X1 and X2 models are manufactured, more than 25,000 square meters of rooftop solar panels generate approximately 2.9 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually, supplying part of the facility’s electricity demand.
Efficiency Improvements Introduced Earlier This Year
The pricing changes follow technical updates introduced in March that improved the efficiency of the iX1 and iX2 range.
BMW said the most efficient versions of the vehicles now offer a maximum WLTP driving range of up to 318 miles (512 kilometers), enhancing their competitiveness in the compact premium electric SUV segment.
The revised pricing strategy aligns the models with the UK government’s incentive program while supporting BMW’s broader effort to expand adoption of its electric vehicle lineup.
