Rivian has not yet delivered their electric vehicles to customers in Canada. But Rivian has already begun planning to build its service network north of the border starting in British Columbia. Rivian through company spokeswoman Laura Weston has started recruiting workers for the first Service Center in Vancouver. On Rivian’s careers page, there are job vacancies in Vancouver for the position of Manager, Field Service. Dallas County purchased three Tesla Model 3s for local police to use as patrol cars. This is the latest example of the use of electric vehicles in law enforcement. GM targets to become a fully electric vehicle manufacturer by 2035. To that end, GM is committed to producing 30 new electric vehicle models and selling 2 million electric vehicles by 2025. Towards that goal, CEO Mary Barra said a “significant portion” of executive compensation will be tied to GM’s performance in meeting their EV targets. The Canadian government has just announced interim sales targets for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). The first interim target is for ZEV sales to reach 20% by 2026 followed by 60% by 2030. Before finally reaching the goal of achieving 100% ZEV sales by 2035. New registration data from Statistics Canada shows that by 2021 5.2% of all new vehicles registered in Canada will be ZEVs. This percentage increased very significantly compared to 2020 which amounted to 3.5% of all registered new vehicles. Rivian owners soon got some new features for their electric vehicles through a free over-the-air (OTA) software update. One of the interesting new features is Sand Mode introduced by CEO RJ Scaringe via a short video on Twitter. Early in 2022, Ram announced it was working on a fully electric pickup truck with mass production scheduled to begin in 2024, but an actual debut date has not been announced.
