BYD’s expansion into low-cost electric mobility is taking shape with the debut of the Racco, a compact mini EV unveiled at last month’s Japan Auto Show. Designed specifically for overseas markets, the Racco will launch first in Japan, where kei cars remain a major segment and accounted for roughly a third of all new vehicle sales last year. Slightly larger than BYD’s Dolphin Surf, the Racco measures 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height—closely matching the footprint of the Nissan Sakura EV, Japan’s best-selling electric car. The boxy, upright vehicle includes four doors, with…

A new fire broke out on Thursday at the Novelis aluminum plant in Oswego, New York, a key supplier of sheet metal for Ford’s F-150 lineup, including the all-electric F-150 Lightning, the company said. The four-alarm blaze began in the morning and was still burning hours later. “Everyone who was working at the plant was safely evacuated,” Novelis told TechCrunch, adding that “the fire is under control but crews are on site to make sure it’s fully extinguished.” Local outlet CNY Central first reported the incident. The Oswego facility previously suffered a major fire in September that halted operations, a…

Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 N made its North American debut on Thursday at the LA Auto Show, with the company confirming the electric sports sedan will be sold in limited quantities in the United States. Powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, the vehicle produces up to 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, enabling…
Europe’s Hydrogen Station Operators Form Alliance as Germany Prepares Major Network Closures
Six European hydrogen refuelling station operators have joined forces to accelerate the rollout of hydrogen mobility infrastructure, even as Germany prepares to retire a significant number of early-generation stations. The newly formed H2 Infrastructure Alliance brings together companies from Sweden, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and France, with a combined 92 stations serving light and heavy commercial vehicles across the region. The alliance partners—Hydri, TEAL Mobility, Fountain Fuel, H2 Mobility, Virya Energy and HYmpulsion—plan to add 39 large-capacity stations by 2028, a network they say will be capable of serving more than 1,800 trucks per day. The group argues that…
Kia has pushed back the launch of its high-performance EV9 GT in the United States, a model originally expected to arrive in late 2025. The company confirmed to Car and Driver that the 2026 model-year version, equipped with a 374 kW powertrain, is now “delayed until further notice” due to what it described as changing market conditions. The decision marks the second electric Kia postponed in the U.S., following an earlier delay of the EV4 sedan. While Kia has not specified the full extent of the challenges, the expiration of federal EV tax incentives is considered a key factor weighing…
Tesla is reportedly evaluating the integration of Apple CarPlay into its vehicle infotainment systems, marking a potential shift after years of avoiding the smartphone interface. The company has long relied on its proprietary software ecosystem, while limiting iPhone connectivity to basic Bluetooth functions such as calls and audio playback. Industry observers note that Tesla’s reluctance toward CarPlay has stemmed partly from CEO Elon Musk’s critical view of Apple’s business practices, including App Store commission policies and long-standing tensions linked to Apple’s hiring of former Tesla engineers for its now-shelved car project. Despite these disagreements, growing consumer preference for seamless smartphone…

The company also reported that its assisted-driving fleet now generates more than 130 million kilometers of data every day. See also: BYD’s Denza Launches 2025 N7 SUV with Standardized God’s Eye B…
The Automotive Cells Company (ACC), the battery cell joint venture created by Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz and TotalEnergies, is close to deciding whether to permanently halt its planned factory in Termoli, Italy, according to Italian business daily Milano Finanza. A formal announcement could come within weeks, the newspaper reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The decision may be communicated before the end of 2025 or in early 2026. According to Milano Finanza, internal assessments suggest the project is “no longer profitable due to technical, financial and strategic difficulties that are slowing growth.” Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa reportedly told officials during a…
Wrightbus is expanding rapidly on the back of strong demand for battery-electric buses, while hydrogen remains a smaller but strategic part of its portfolio, CEO Jean-Marc Gales told Electrive. Electric models make up the vast majority of sales, reflecting market momentum and funding conditions across Europe. “Out of nearly 1,200 buses we will sell this year, hydrogen units account for around 80,” Gales said, noting that diesel is at a similar level while electric models represent about 85% of output. Since 2022, the company has delivered around 300 hydrogen buses, but orders slowed in Germany when subsidies were paused. “Now…
French logistics company Transports Lebrun has introduced two Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks to transport freshly pressed grape juice for champagne producer Vranken-Pommery, adding zero-emission vehicles to one of the Champagne region’s busiest harvest supply chains. The trucks move juice from wineries to fermentation tanks, operating quietly across the region and covering several thousand hectolitres during the harvest season. Transports Lebrun, which operates a fleet of 50 trucks and roughly 100 tanks, transitioned to battery-electric vehicles after trialling the eActros 600 during last year’s harvest. According to Daimler Truck, the vehicles performed without local CO₂ emissions and drew strong interest from…
