A major charging park with 40 operational charging points officially opens on August 1 in Amstetten, Lower Austria, as part of a broader effort to expand the region’s electric vehicle infrastructure. The facility, located on a 3,000 square metre site, will eventually offer up to 50 charging bays, 38 of which are equipped with ultra-fast charging stations delivering up to 400 kW of power.

The project is operated by a subsidiary of the local municipal utility and features a unique multi-operator model, with parking spaces leased to Ionity, Tesla, and regional energy provider Energieversorgung Niederösterreich (EVN). As one of Austria’s most comprehensive charging facilities to date, the Amstetten park aims to enhance accessibility and comfort for EV users.

“To make the e-charging park a pleasant place for everyone, there is a lounge area with catering facilities, toilet facilities, green spaces with a play area for children and a separate dog walking area,” said Harald Stressler, authorised signatory at Ladewerke Amstetten. “Our goal is for everyone to find what they need here for their journey or their next stopover.”

Stressler also noted that the site is intended to serve as a model for future infrastructure: “At Oiden, we evaluate ongoing operations and can derive suitable measures for possible expansion or additional locations.” While a timeline for the full 50-point rollout has not been provided, the facility’s official inauguration is scheduled for 19 September during European Mobility Week.
