Audi Expands EV Lineup with A6 e-tron Sedan and Avant Versions

Audi has introduced its latest electric vehicle, the A6 e-tron, available in both Sportsback and Avant versions, marking a significant expansion in its electric vehicle (EV) offerings. This move aligns with the German automaker’s revised naming strategy, where even numbers designate electric models and odd numbers represent internal combustion engine vehicles.

Following its primary focus on electric SUVs such as the Q4, Q6, and Q8, Audi is now shifting attention to sedans, with the A6 e-tron set to join the existing e-tron GT. This new model is the second Audi EV built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, developed in collaboration with Porsche, following the Q6 e-tron.

The A6 e-tron shares the same powertrain as the Q6 but offers a smaller, more efficient design, resulting in a longer range. The Sportsback version boasts a range of up to 756 kilometers (470 miles) on a 100 kWh (94 kWh usable) battery pack according to the WLTP standard. The Avant version, designed as a wagon, offers slightly less range, about 30 kilometers less.

An S6 sports version is also available, featuring a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds, although this reduces the vehicle’s range. Both versions of the A6 e-tron support rapid charging, achieving a 10 to 80% charge in just 21 minutes with a peak charging rate of 270 kW.

Audi Shifts Focus to Plug-In Hybrids Amid Faltering EV Demand

Audi will begin accepting orders for the A6 e-tron in Europe starting in September 2024. Pricing for the “upper mid-range models” starts at 75,600 euros for the A6 Sportback e-tron performance and 77,250 euros for the A6 Avant e-tron performance. The S6 Sportback e-tron is priced at 99,500 euros, while the S6 Avant e-tron costs 101,150 euros. No information is available yet on the availability or pricing for the North American market.

The A6 e-tron reflects Audi’s strategic shift towards electrification, aiming to offer a wider range of EV options while maintaining the brand’s hallmark performance and luxury.
