Arnold Clark Charge said it has become Scotland’s largest ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging network, less than a year after launching operations, as the UK car retailer accelerates investment in high-power public charging infrastructure.

The company said it now operates more than 50 public ultra-rapid charging hubs across Scotland, all open to the public and offering charging speeds of up to 150 kilowatts. Each hub provides up to 12 chargers, enabling drivers to add substantial range in a short period and continue their journeys with minimal disruption.

Arnold Clark Charge was launched in 2024 as part of a £30 million investment by Arnold Clark, the UK’s largest independently owned, family-run car retailer. Since then, the network has expanded rapidly, with a focus on supporting both long-distance EV travel and everyday charging needs for local communities.

“With Arnold Clark Charge, our aim is to give drivers quick, reliable and affordable charging wherever they travel,” said Pablo Levi, group sustainability manager at Arnold Clark. “Becoming Scotland’s largest ultra-rapid network in such a short time is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of – and we’re only just getting started.”

As part of a wider rollout strategy, the company is extending the network beyond Scotland into key locations across the UK. Arnold Clark said the expansion is intended to improve access to high-power charging infrastructure in areas that may currently be underserved, complementing existing public and private charging networks.

Pricing has been set at what the company describes as the lower end of the ultra-rapid charging market. Arnold Clark Charge offers electricity at 55 pence per kilowatt-hour, with payment available through the Arnold Clark app, via roaming partners or using contactless payment at charging hubs.

The expansion comes as demand for reliable public charging continues to grow alongside rising electric vehicle adoption in the UK. Industry data show that access to fast and ultra-rapid chargers remains a key factor influencing consumer confidence in switching to electric vehicles, particularly for drivers without home charging options.

Arnold Clark said it plans to continue expanding the network while incorporating customer feedback to improve the charging experience, as competition among charging providers intensifies across the UK market.
