Argentina will remove import tariffs on certain low-cost electric and hybrid vehicles starting next week, while also reducing taxes on higher-priced cars and motorcycles, Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced on Tuesday.

The measure will allow up to 50,000 imports of low-cost EVs and hybrids annually to be exempt from tariffs, Caputo stated on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The initiative aims to encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly transportation options.

For vehicles available in the local market, cars priced between 41 million pesos ($39,047) and 75 million pesos ($71,428) will be exempt from taxes, while those priced above 75 million pesos will see tax rates reduced to 18% from the current 35%. Motorcycles priced between 15 million pesos and 23 million pesos will also benefit from a tax exemption, Caputo added.

The policy changes reflect Argentina’s broader push to promote sustainable mobility and make electric and hybrid vehicles more accessible to consumers.
