Arcfox, the electric vehicle brand under Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), has begun pre-sales of its updated Alpha S5 sedan, introducing extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants alongside battery-electric versions as it seeks to regain momentum in China’s competitive market.
The model carries an official pre-sale starting price of 117,800 yuan ($17,180), with a limited-time subsidized price of 112,800 yuan. Customers placing deposits are offered purchase benefits valued at 25,888 yuan, while all variants receive a temporary 5,000 yuan subsidy.

The revised Alpha S5 lineup includes six variants — four battery-electric (BEV) models and two EREV versions. BEV pre-sale prices range from 121,800 yuan to 178,800 yuan, while the EREV models are priced at 117,800 yuan and 130,800 yuan.
The sedan measures 4,820 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width and 1,480 mm in height, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase. The EREV variant pairs a 1.5-liter range extender producing 77 kW with a drive motor rated at up to 200 kW. It features a 27.4 kWh battery offering a pure electric range of 175 km and a combined range of up to 1,450 km when fully fueled and charged.

The BEV version is built on a 900-volt platform and is equipped with a motor delivering up to 390 kW and 690 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.
In terms of driver assistance, the updated model integrates BAIC’s Yuanjing smart driving system and features a visual alert indicator referred to as a blue smart driving light.

Arcfox was among China’s early electric vehicle startups but has struggled to sustain sales growth in recent years. The launch of the updated Alpha S5 forms part of a broader restructuring of its product portfolio. The company recently introduced its Wendao lineup targeting higher-margin premium SUV and MPV segments, with the WendaoV9 multi-purpose vehicle expected to launch in the second quarter.
