Aptera Motors has signed an agreement with LG Energy Solution (LGES) to supply batteries for its solar-powered electric vehicle from 2025 to 2031. The deal, announced during CES 2025 in Las Vegas, involves a total supply volume of 4.4 GWh of battery capacity.

The agreement also includes CTNS, a company responsible for assembling LGES’s 2170 NCMA cathode round cells into battery modules and packs, which will then be supplied to Aptera for installation. Under the contract, LGES will serve as the exclusive battery supplier for the Aptera solar electric car during the specified period.

Aptera plans to introduce its three-wheeled solar electric vehicle to the U.S. market this year. A production-ready version of the vehicle is currently on display at CES. According to the company, nearly 50,000 reservations have been made, representing an estimated $1.7 billion in potential revenue.

The vehicle offers a battery range of up to 643 kilometers (400 miles) on a full charge, with an additional 64 kilometers (40 miles) per day from integrated solar cells under optimal conditions. Aptera estimates that in sunny climates, the vehicle could generate up to 16,000 kilometers (10,000 miles) of solar-powered driving annually. The design incorporates four solar panels positioned on the hood, dashboard, roof, and hatch.

The vehicle’s lightweight design features a carbon fiber sheet molding compound (CF-SMC) to enhance efficiency. For the production model, Aptera has partnered with LGES for battery supply and Vitesco for the motor system.

“This partnership represents an important step in delivering our solar electric vehicles to market with a focus on reliability and performance,” said Chris Anthony, Co-CEO of Aptera Motors.
