European charging operator Allego, in partnership with real estate investment company Mitiska REIM, has opened Belgium’s largest fast-charging hub at Malinas Retail Park in the city of Mechelen, as both companies step up efforts to integrate electric vehicle charging into high-traffic retail locations.
The new site comprises 24 ultra-fast charging points spread across 12 charging stations, each equipped with two connectors. Eight of the stations provide charging power of up to 300 kilowatts, while the remaining four deliver up to 150 kilowatts. All charging points support plug-and-charge functionality, enabling vehicles to begin charging automatically without additional authentication steps.

Each station can charge two vehicles simultaneously, allowing up to 24 electric cars to be charged at the same time. Allego said the Mechelen location serves as a flagship project within a broader rollout strategy agreed with Mitiska REIM.
Under the partnership, Allego and Mitiska REIM plan to develop fast-charging hubs with a combined total of around 34 additional charging points at five strategic retail locations across Belgium by the end of 2026.

“Locating fast-charging hubs at high-traffic retail destinations is a strategic no-brainer,” Alexei Blokhine, head of network development at Allego Belgium, said late last year. “Charging points have evolved from a nice-to-have into a core element of retail mobility strategies.” He added that Allego installed 106 fast chargers in Belgium in 2025, bringing its total number of operational fast-charging points in the country to 460 by the end of the year.
Mitiska REIM said the addition of high-power charging infrastructure aligns both with sustainability goals and commercial objectives. “Providing our visitors with cutting-edge charging technology is a natural step for us,” said Jan Du Bois, managing director Belgium at Mitiska REIM. “Beyond supporting our ESG objectives, fast chargers enhance the value of our real estate portfolio.”

Allego has been expanding its fast-charging network across Europe in parallel with the Belgian rollout. In December, the company announced plans to install 50 fast-charging stations in Slovenia. The past year has also seen internal restructuring at Allego, including changes to its executive board and the appointment of a new chief executive officer.
Despite operational challenges in some markets, including cable theft incidents affecting parts of its UK network, Allego has continued to pursue growth. In early 2024, the company also joined a charging point operator alliance in France, underlining its strategy to strengthen its position across key European markets.
