All Electric 2023 Ford E-Transit Cargo Van to Feature Digital Rearview Mirrors

2023 Ford E-Transit Cargo Van is set to be equipped with digital rearview mirrors, a feature that is becoming more common among various car models. The lack of windows on a cargo van makes it a prime candidate for the digital rearview mirror system. This feature will be particularly helpful for cargo van drivers who usually face obstructed views of the area behind their vehicle.

According to Christian Kreipke, Ford assistant brand manager for vans, the Digital Rearview Mirror is an invaluable tool for delivery drivers, especially those making multiple deliveries daily. “Cargo van drivers often contend with an obstructed view of the area behind their vehicle,” said Kreipke. “You can imagine how difficult that makes maneuvering in a crowded parking lot or city street.”

Similar to other manufacturers, the system relies on a camera mounted on the back of the vehicle to record footage. The footage is then relayed to a high-definition screen that displays a panoramic view of the area behind the vehicle. The rear camera is designed for steady recording even in inclement weather, and the wide-angle provides nearly twice the view of a traditional rearview mirror.

Ford has included a switch to turn the digital mirror into a standard glass one. However, this feature seems irrelevant in this application unless it’s in a passenger van with windows. This feature will undoubtedly make the 2023 Ford E-Transit Cargo Van safer and easier to drive, thanks to the increased visibility.

The use of digital rearview mirrors is not exclusive to Ford, and more automakers should consider implementing this technology. For example, the new BMW 7 Series has a massive theater screen that blocks the driver’s view, making the use of a digital rearview mirror a significant improvement. We have had plenty of experience using these mirrors on various vehicles and have seen how they can improve the driver’s ability to see out of the back, even on sports cars with tiny rear windows.
