Alfa Romeo to Launch First Electric Vehicle in 2024: A Small Crossover Inspired by Past Models

Alfa Romeo is reportedly set to launch its first-ever series-produced electric vehicle in 2024, according to a recent report. While official details are yet to be announced, sources suggest that the EV will come in the form of a small crossover, aimed at entry-level buyers, and will share the same underpinnings as the Jeep Avenger. Despite the car being named after a city-friendly hatchback built on the Stellantis platform, the EV version will have a distinct design of its own, inspired by past and current Alfa Romeo models, including the iconic Giulietta from 1954.

The new EV crossover could be named Brennero, after a famous mountain pass in Italy. Alfa Romeo is looking to attract young, urban buyers with this car, and it will be interesting to see how designers translate 70-year-old styling cues onto a modern electric vehicle.

As for its powertrain, the Brennero is expected to share many components with the Jeep Avenger, including a single front-mounted electric motor that delivers 154 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. This motor draws power from a 54-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, which offers an estimated 250-mile driving range on the WLTP cycle. In some markets, the Brennero will also be offered with a gasoline-powered engine, namely a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder, rated at 154 horsepower.

According to the report, the Alfa Romeo Brennero will hit showrooms in June 2024, but it may not be available in the United States due to its small size. For American buyers who are eagerly waiting for an electric Alfa Romeo, the rumored second-generation Stelvio, set to launch in 2026, might be worth the wait
