Founded in 2022, Italian-American EV startup Aehra is providing more details about its first products after signing a deal with Austrian battery manufacturer Miba. Thanks to the supplierās bespoke battery packs, Aehra expects its first SUV to offer up to 497 miles (800 km) of range.
āMiba is particularly well suited to provide the type of features we wish to have in our batteries to provide optimum range and efficiency and integration with the body structure of our SUV and Sedan,ā said Stefano Mazzetti, Aehraās head of purchasing and procurement. āMiba is at the forefront of battery technology and production.ā
The startup says that it wants to be a premium automaker, so a bespoke battery system will benefit it more than an off-the-shelf solution. Thanks to this agreement, Aehraās first SUV will be able to make use of a 950V charging system for 350 kW fast-charging.
The automaker says that the vehicles will make use of a 120 kWh battery pack, which it estimates will give it a range of up to 497 miles (800 km) per charge. That lofty goal will be aided by the optimization of battery and powertrain efficiency that arises from its partnership with Miba.
The bespoke batteries will also allow Aehra to design the batteries into the vehicle more efficiently. Moreover, the vehicle will be capable of bidirectional charging, allowing its owners to power tools, appliances, and their home with their vehicle.
āOur technology will help AEHRA achieve its goal of delivering super-efficient vehicles in the premium EV segment,ā said Stefan Gaigg, managing director at Miba. āIn addition to these performance targets, we share a common desire to reduce the carbon footprint and improve recyclability of the battery system.ā
Aehra first unveiled its SUV in October and intends to start deliveries in late 2025. It is also set to unveil its second vehicle, a sedan based on the same platform, with the same footprint, in June. The automaker plans to sell its vehicles in Europe, China, the Gulf states, and North America.
