The French manufacturer, DS Automobiles has just announced its newest vehicle concept taken from Formula E technology. Almost all the best parts will be applied to the car, from the body, the engine to the supporting features in it. Citroen which is the parent company of DS Automobiles stated that the new vehicle will be named E-Tense Performance.
The DS prototype uses a carbon monocoque structure paired with the DS Techeetah engine that competes in Formula E. The pair of electric motors produces a combined power of 600 kW divided by 250 kW at the front and 350 kW at the rear.
According to DS, the specifications embedded in the vehicle are equivalent to 815 hp of power and 8,000 Nm of torque. In addition, there is also a regenerative braking system at the level of formula E with a capacity of 600 kW.
Citroen and DS Automobiles have not announced the specifications of the battery, mileage and capacity it has. The only information we know of, the battery used is the result of the development of the DS with TotalEnergies, Saft. Reportedly, the battery uses Quartz EV Fluid which can be adapted to a special design.
The E-Tense Performance form is equipped with a Daytime Running Light with 800 individual LEDs. Overall, the design hasn’t changed much from the concept, namely the E-Tense, it’s just that the headlights also function as cameras for maximum visibility.
Currently, Citroen and DS Automobiles are still working on a prototype of this Formula E-inspired vehicle. In fact, two DS mainstay drivers in Formula E, namely Jean-Éric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa, were involved in several road and circuit tests. There are still many improvements made by the manufacturer so that this vehicle remains legal to drive on the highway.
However, DS Automobiles has not projected the price that will be priced for the production version of the E-Tense Performance. In fact, they still keep the release schedule a secret. But the presence of the DS E-Tense Performance is proof that Formula E technology can also be used in mass production vehicles in the future. You no longer have to use special facilities to feel the sensation of driving and the performance of an electric land jet.
“The idea is also to find solutions that reduce costs, make them easier to manufacture and explore implementation in production models. The next generation of the E-TENSE lineup will benefit from this development,” said Thomas Chevaucher, Director of DS Performance.
