A total of 3,000 buses have met global specifications for environmental protection, including 25 percent electric buses. The bus is planned to be deployed to transport spectators during the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The move is one of Qatar’s efforts to fulfill its commitment to present the first carbon dioxide-neutral World Cup.
Director of Mobility at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Heritage (SC) Thani Al Zarraa, said that 25 percent of the total targeted buses will run on electricity and the rest will meet global specifications in terms of not affecting the environment.
“We have used or tested about a third of the total 3,000 buses that will be used during the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. These buses will serve all segments including the media crew, workforce and fans,” said Al Zarra.

“Free transportation will also be provided to fans holding match tickets in vital areas such as central Doha and the area around the stadium.”
Regarding the launch of the electric bus which will be used at the grand sporting event, he said the electric bus had been tested on several occasions such as the 2021 Amir Cup final match at the opening of the Al Thumama Stadium and at the opening of the Al Thumama Stadium.
“These buses are delivered regularly in batches as they are produced and delivered to Qatar. All buses are expected to be delivered by the end of the first quarter (Q1) of 2022,” he said.
Buses, he continued, will differ in size such as 8-seater mini buses, 20 and 36-seater buses which will be used in various areas as needed.

“Shuttle buses will operate on Corniche Street in addition to bus services on Ring Roads B and C. Buses will transport passengers from accommodation to vital areas. An express bus service will be available for the stadium,” said Al Zarra.
Furthermore, Al Zarra said that the public transportation system is connected with vital areas across the country from the northern part of the country to the central and southern parts of the country such as Al Wakra and Al Wukair.
“As we promised that the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup will be unique because it will be held for the first time in the Middle East so that from various aspects including providing environmentally friendly transportation,” said Al Zarraa.
