BYD is set to roll out a mid-lifecycle update for its Dolphin electric hatchback, four years after its initial debut. The refreshed model is expected to launch in mid-to-late 2025, introducing updated styling and a new powertrain option to the popular EV lineup.
Images of the 2026 BYD Dolphin surfaced on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website, revealing key design changes. The facelifted Dolphin features redesigned headlights extending into the front fenders, evoking a resemblance to the original Chevrolet Bolt. Additional updates include a slimmer grille, smaller bumper intakes, and a cleaner rear bumper design with updated taillight graphics, aligning the model with BYD’s more recent Seal 06 GT.
The updated model grows in size, measuring 4,280 mm (168.5 inches) in length, making it 155 mm (6.1 inches) longer than the original Chinese-spec Dolphin launched in 2021. The wheelbase remains at 2,700 mm (106.3 inches), with subtle changes enhancing its road presence. While no interior images were shared, the facelift is expected to bring minor tech upgrades and refreshed trim options.
Under the hood, the updated Dolphin will offer three powertrain options, producing 94 hp (70 kW), 174 hp (130 kW), and 201 hp (150 kW) respectively. While the first and third outputs are carried over, the middle-tier option is a new addition, enhancing the lineup’s versatility. All versions will feature BYD’s Blade LFP battery packs, which currently offer capacities of 44.93 kWh and 60.48 kWh, supporting ranges of 420 km (261 miles) and 520 km (323 miles) under the CTLC cycle.
BYD’s Dolphin is competitively priced, starting at ¥99,800 ($13,800) in China, AU$36,890 ($23,600) in Australia, and €36,990 ($38,940) in the Netherlands before subsidies. With its updated design and expanded options, the Dolphin aims to maintain its appeal in an increasingly crowded EV market.
