Ionity has opened a major new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at the Charlestown Shopping Centre in Dublin, marking the largest high-power charging (HPC) location in Ireland to date. The hub features 12 fast chargers, each capable of delivering up to 350 kW, enabling drivers to recharge their EVs from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes. The chargers are accessible to the public 24/7, and the location, situated near Junction 5 of the M50, one of Ireland’s busiest highways, offers convenience with retail, dining, and entertainment options on-site.

Dan O’Connor, Centre Manager at Charlestown Shopping Centre, expressed pride in the new installation, saying, “Charlestown Shopping Centre is delighted to work with Ionity and to lead the way in supporting Ireland’s transition to a more sustainable future. With the installation of these 12 Ionity Fast Chargers, we are proud to offer the largest EV charging hub in Ireland. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to promoting sustainability, reducing our carbon footprint, and enhancing the shopping experience for our customers.”

Ionity’s UK and Ireland Country Manager, Andreas Atkins, also highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “From its sustainability targets to the rollout of EV infrastructure across Ireland, the country is clearly taking its obligations to both people and planet seriously. With 115,000 drivers on the M50 every day, providing an EV charging station is hugely important if we’re going to make EVs the norm across Europe.”

The new hub is part of Ireland’s broader push to expand EV infrastructure. The country aims for 40 percent of all new car sales to be electric by 2030. In addition to Ionity’s initiative, Dublin authorities are installing 200 charging points at council-owned car parks, marking the first expansion of public charging infrastructure in the city since 2023. Moreover, the Irish government has committed €21 million in grants to support the installation of 131 new HPC points along the National Road Network, ensuring easier access to EV charging nationwide.
