GAC Group has entered into a partnership with Huawei to jointly create a new premium smart new energy vehicle (NEV) brand, deepening the collaboration between the Guangzhou-based carmaker and the tech giant. The agreement, signed on November 30, 2024, aims to combine GAC’s 27 years of automotive expertise with Huawei’s leadership in information and communication technology, particularly in intelligent systems.

The partnership will focus on leveraging both companies’ strengths in product development, marketing, and ecological services to deliver cutting-edge intelligent experiences to users. GAC will create this new NEV brand alongside its existing brands, Trumpchi, Aion, and Hyptec. The collaboration was formalized in a ceremony attended by GAC Chairman Zeng Qinghong, General Manager Feng Xingya, Huawei’s Rotating Chairman Eric Xu, and CEO of Huawei’s Intelligent Vehicle Solutions Business Unit, Jin Yuzhi.

This move follows Huawei’s broader strategy of deepening its involvement with automakers through different cooperation models. Huawei’s most hands-on approach, the “HIMA” (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance), involves launching new brands in partnership with car manufacturers. Huawei’s existing HIMA partnerships include Seres, Chery, Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC), and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC).

This new partnership is a continuation of GAC’s earlier collaboration with Huawei, which began in May 2021, when the two companies announced plans to co-develop L4 self-driving cars. However, GAC later decided to independently develop the AH8 SUV, initially planned to be a product of the Huawei collaboration. Huawei continues to play a crucial role as a key supplier for GAC’s models, providing advanced smart car solutions.
