Stellantis has officially launched its latest electric vehicle platform, the STLA Frame, designed to power the next generation of full-size electric trucks and SUVs. Unveiled on Tuesday, the new platform is expected to support upcoming Jeep and Ram EV models, including the highly anticipated Ram 1500 REV electric pickup, scheduled for release in early 2025.
The STLA Frame platform aims to deliver “best-in-class capabilities,” offering up to 500 miles (800 km) of range, a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 lbs, and a payload rating of 2,700 lbs. It is engineered to accommodate various powertrain configurations, including full-electric (EV), range-extended (REEV), hybrid (HEV), internal combustion engine (ICE), and hydrogen-powered vehicles. This flexibility will allow Stellantis to cater to a broad spectrum of consumer needs in the growing electric vehicle market.
The platform’s design includes a widened center section that houses large, liquid-cooled battery packs, ranging from 159 kWh to over 200 kWh. It also boasts up to 350 kW charging capacity, enabling vehicles to gain 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging. Additionally, vehicles built on the STLA Frame platform will feature bi-directional charging, allowing them to power homes or send energy back to the grid, enhancing the utility of these vehicles beyond traditional transportation.
The Ram 1500 REV, slated for launch in 2025, will be the first electric pickup built on the STLA Frame platform, offered in both EV and REEV configurations. The platform will also support upcoming Jeep EV models, including the Grand Wagoneer and potentially the Gladiator pickup and Grand Cherokee, with Jeep’s first global electric SUV, the Wagoneer S, set to hit U.S. dealerships soon.
Stellantis’ expansion of its electric vehicle portfolio continues with the STLA Frame platform, which joins the STLA Medium and STLA Large platforms, both of which have already been deployed for various electric models. While Jeep’s rugged Recon SUV and other models will likely be built on the STLA Frame, Stellantis’ commitment to innovation in electric mobility is evident as it seeks to capitalize on the rapidly growing electric truck and SUV market.
