ChargeEuropa, a Europe-based EV charging company, has announced a strategic partnership with Movem, a subsidiary of Meralco, the Philippines’ largest energy provider. This collaboration marks ChargeEuropa’s first venture into the Asian market and is set to introduce the company’s unique Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) advertising-integrated EV charging model to the Philippines.
Through this partnership, ChargeEuropa aims to deploy a network of advertising-supported EV chargers across key locations in the Philippines. This innovative approach combines the installation of electric vehicle chargers with digital advertising, creating a financially sustainable model for EV adoption in markets where traditional charging infrastructure may be lacking. Movem, leveraging its expertise and local knowledge, will assist ChargeEuropa in rolling out these charging stations, which are expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating EV adoption in the country.
Matt Tymowski, CEO of ChargeEuropa, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Our partnership with Movem is a key milestone as we expand ChargeEuropa’s mission to support early-stage EV markets. The Philippines, with its rapidly growing urban centers and increasing commitment to sustainable energy, presents an ideal market to showcase how our technology can accelerate EV adoption while simultaneously benefiting advertisers.”
Raymond Ravelo, President and CEO of Movem, emphasized the alignment of the partnership with their sustainability goals. “ChargeEuropa’s model aligns perfectly with our goals to make sustainable transportation accessible and convenient for Filipinos. With this partnership, we are taking a significant step towards a cleaner, greener future by offering innovative EV solutions that are both effective and sustainable.”
This move comes after ChargeEuropa’s 2022 announcement to build a global network of over 1,000 charging stations within two years. The partnership also follows Meralco’s earlier efforts to electrify its vehicle fleet, including a 2021 order for 18 electric transporters from BYD.
