Cargo scooters may be rare, but the new Lightfoot cargo electric scooter, developed by Otherlab, is making waves in the market with its standout feature: built-in solar panels.

These 120W panels on each side offer continuous solar charging, an eco-friendly perk that reduces the need for plug-in charging for moderate daily use.

The Lightfoot cargo scooter includes a sizable 45.2L (12-gallon) storage compartment accessible via a hinged panel, concealing a 1.1 kWh battery and a 600W onboard charger.

The solar panels offer an estimated 7-8% charge per hour in direct sunlight—roughly 3 miles of additional range. The company rates the scooter’s total range at 37 miles per charge, with up to 18 miles of solar recharge potential in a single day. Plug-in charging offers an 80% charge in 90 minutes.

Designed for easy city use, the Lightfoot can reach 20 mph, making it bike-lane legal without additional licensing. Dual 750W hub motors deliver up to 2,000W of power, minimizing maintenance by eliminating chains and belts.

The scooter includes a 1-year full warranty and a 2-year warranty for key components, as well as a buy-back guarantee for unsatisfied customers.

The Lightfoot cargo electric scooter is now available for purchase with a $4,995 MSRP, with deliveries slated to begin in January 2025.
