Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), an energy and mobility service provider, has introduced a flexible procurement program to supply government ministries and departments with a range of electric vehicle (EV) models. The initiative aims to help meet operational needs through customizable EV options, supporting the government’s shift towards sustainable mobility.
Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, inaugurated the program, with a target to deploy 5,000 EVs for government officials over the next two years. The plan aligns with India’s broader sustainability goals, which include achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
“The ‘EV as a Service’ program exemplifies CESL’s dedication to advancing clean mobility and accelerating India’s path towards sustainable transportation,” Lal remarked in a statement to The Economic Times. “Initiatives like this demonstrate India’s progress toward integrating clean energy into public transportation.”
CESL has already introduced around 2,000 electric vehicles across India, including approximately 17,000 electric buses, according to media sources. India recently launched the PM Electric Drive Revolution In Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) subsidy scheme, providing substantial funding to encourage adoption of electric two- and three-wheelers and commercial vehicles. The scheme designates 44 billion rupees (about 488.5 million euros) for electric buses and additional funds for electric ambulances and trucks.
