Mercedes-Benz is set to launch a new electric version of its entry-level CLA model, promising to lead the market in range, charging speed, and efficiency with cutting-edge technology adapted from the automakerâs Vision EQXX concept, CEO Ola KĂ€llenius announced at a recent test event in Immendingen. The CLA EV, the first in a new line of entry-level electric models, will be officially unveiled next year, with deliveries beginning in 2026.
âThis new CLA EV represents a significant evolution for Mercedes-Benz,â KĂ€llenius said, describing the model as a blend of sportiness and advanced functionality aimed at setting new standards for electric vehicles. The CLA EV is built on Mercedesâ upcoming MMA platform, designed to optimize performance and efficiency for mass production. KĂ€llenius highlighted Mercedesâ proprietary electric drive unit, engineered in-house, and a two-speed transmission system to fine-tune motor efficiency across driving speeds.
In a first for its entry-level range, the CLA will feature the companyâs newly developed MB.OS operating system, which Mercedes describes as the âbrainâ of its next-gen vehicles. This system, coupled with a virtual assistant, is intended to provide an intuitive, interactive driving experience. âItâs like having a butler in your car,â KĂ€llenius noted.
Beyond software, the CLA EV introduces an innovative headlight design, integrating the Mercedes star for aesthetic appeal and enhanced road safety. Charging infrastructure is also set for a significant upgrade; KĂ€llenius described the upcoming high-powered charging system as âincredibly fast,â likening the experience to traditional refueling.
The CLA EV is expected to be priced around $50,000, positioning it to compete with Teslaâs Model 3 and BMWâs i4. Additionally, a hybrid variant will be offered, catering to customers seeking flexible options in the transition to electric mobility.
