Just days after Scout Motors reintroduced itself to the market with the highly anticipated Traveler SUV and Terra pickup, the brand has reported strong early interest, particularly for its optional âHarvesterâ range-extender model.
According to initial feedback from the company, around two-thirds of reservations are for the SUV model, while the remaining third are for the Terra pickup, marking a promising start for the Volkswagen-backed venture.
Although Scout has not disclosed total reservation numbers, spokespersons shared that consumer response has been âextremely positiveâ and reservations have exceeded expectations. âThis has resulted in a high volume of reservations that has surpassed internal expectations,â a Scout representative said, adding that features like the range-extender, bench seating, and a renewed focus on practicality have resonated well with buyers.
Since their unveiling, both the Traveler and Terra have sparked enthusiasm among consumers, especially with the unexpected addition of the Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) model.
This range-extender option, the Harvester, includes a small gasoline engine that recharges the battery, offering up to 500 miles (805 km) of rangeâan attractive alternative for consumers who remain hesitant about fully electric vehicles.
Online data from a dedicated Scout forum further underscores the popularity of the EREV option, showing that over 80% of those reserving have opted for it over the fully electric model. Forum data also suggests that 45.9% of early adopters already own an electric vehicle, while 54.1% are new to the EV market.
However, these insights come from a limited sample size, meaning that actual figures may differ until Scout releases more comprehensive data.
The range-extenderâs success thus far suggests that Scoutâs strategy of offering versatility in powertrain options is paying off. By catering to varying levels of consumer readiness for electric technology, Scout may be well-positioned to establish itself as a competitive player in the evolving EV landscape.
