Garrett Motion Inc. and China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. (SinoTruk) have signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on the development of advanced electrified powertrain technologies for commercial vehicles, with the goal of mass production by 2027.
The partnership will focus on creating next-generation electric powertrains designed to improve energy efficiency and simplify vehicle integration for both light and heavy trucks, supporting the expansion of zero-emission technology in China’s commercial vehicle sector.
The collaboration will leverage Garrettâs expertise in high-speed electric motors and SinoTrukâs strengths in transmission systems, aiming to develop solutions that reduce material usage while maintaining high power and torque. “Garrettâs capability to handle high-speed electric motors allows us to design significantly smaller and lighter electrified powertrains while maintaining leading energy efficiency,” said Olivier Rabiller, CEO of Garrett. “This partnership with SinoTruk will accelerate the development of high-speed solutions that improve vehicle performance and contribute to global emission reduction goals.”
SinoTrukâs President Wang Chen also highlighted the importance of this collaboration for the commercial vehicle industry, saying, “This partnership will help to advance our innovation leadership. We will complement Garrettâs high-speed E-drive with our high-speed transmission expertise, delivering breakthrough technologies that combine both performance and cost benefits for our fleet customers.”
