Charge point operator Allego has been commissioned by retail property investor Ascencio to install 212 fast-charging points across 45 locations in Belgium.

These high-power chargers, with capacities of up to 400 kW, will be installed primarily in car parks at retail properties, such as supermarkets and shopping centres, which Ascencio specializes in.

The strategic placement of the chargers aims to benefit both drivers, who can charge their vehicles while shopping, and retailers, who could see increased customer traffic. Thomas Vandervecken, Allego’s Business Developer Manager for Belux, highlighted the advantages of placing charging infrastructure along major roads in these commercial hubs.

The specific locations for the chargers and how they will be distributed among the 45 sites remain undisclosed. Construction will begin once technical assessments and necessary permits are in place.

Ascencio, as part of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy, will not bear any investment costs for the project. Bernard Sergeant, Ascencio’s Head of Operations and ESG, noted that this partnership supports their goal of carbon neutrality for ground transportation while enhancing the attractiveness of their commercial sites by offering fast-charging solutions for customers.

Allego, already operating Belgium’s largest public charging network, sees this collaboration as a continuation of its expansion in partnership with landowners and other infrastructure operators.
