Chinese charging infrastructure manufacturer XCharge is enhancing its research and development (R&D) presence in Europe by opening a new test center in Hamburg, Germany. This facility aims to support the company’s efforts to strengthen its footprint in the European market.

According to XCharge, the Hamburg-based test lab will focus on ensuring compatibility between its charging stations and the latest electric vehicle models, including not only electric cars but also trucks and buses. The test lab is designed to address past challenges where new vehicle models or software versions have caused communication issues with charging stations, an issue not unique to XCharge but prevalent across the industry.

The facility will also serve as a demonstration hub, allowing potential customers to experience XCharge products, such as the C6, C7, and Net Zero Series charging stations, firsthand. Albina Iljasov, Head of Europe at XCharge, stated that the lab will offer a “hands-on” experience, helping customers understand the ease of operating the company’s charging stations. Additionally, the lab will support integration with different back-end systems and aid in future product development through market research.

Although XCharge is based in China, the Hamburg subsidiary, XCharge Europe GmbH, emphasizes its commitment to the European market. This expansion is part of XCharge’s strategy to strengthen relationships with customers and partners across Europe. In addition to the new Hamburg facility, the company has operated a test lab in Madrid since 2023.

XCharge’s product lineup includes the C6 series, particularly the C6EU variant, which offers charging capacities of up to 200 kW. The Net Zero Series features a battery-supported HPC column capable of delivering up to 210 kW, even with a weak grid connection. The latest addition, the C7 model, is expected to provide charging capacities of up to 420 kW and was introduced in 2023.
