BMW Group and Tata Technologies Launch Joint Venture Focused on Automotive Software Development and Business IT Innovations

The BMW Group and Tata Technologies have officially launched their joint venture, BMW TechWorks India, with offices in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Following the final signing of contracts and regulatory approvals, the joint venture is set to begin with 100 employees and aims to scale to a four-digit workforce by the end of 2025, focusing on attracting top-tier Indian talent. Each company holds a 50% stake in the joint venture.

BMW TechWorks India is designed to complement the BMW Group’s global strategy by engineering advanced, scalable software solutions for next-generation vehicles and enhancing digital experiences. Leveraging Tata Technologies’ expertise across the product value chain—from conceptualization to detailed engineering and software-defined vehicle (SDV) development—the joint venture will spearhead key software projects for BMW’s premium mobility solutions and tap into India’s rich talent pool.

Central to this partnership is the philosophy of “Engineer in India for the World.” The initiative seeks to harness India’s engineering and IT capabilities to develop strategic software solutions for SDVs, automated driving, digital infotainment, and automotive digital services.

Beyond automotive software, BMW TechWorks India will contribute to digital innovations for the BMW Group’s Business IT. This effort will accelerate the digital transformation of BMW’s global production network and enhance its digital customer journey and sales processes. The joint venture will also focus on developing artificial intelligence applications and platforms to streamline core business operations.

The initiative presents young Indian professionals with the opportunity to engage with technologies that will define the future of mobility on a global scale. The commitment to cultivating local talent and pioneering next-generation automotive innovations reinforces India’s position as a burgeoning innovation hub within the automotive technology ecosystem.

The management team for BMW TechWorks India includes experienced executives from both companies. Aditya Khera serves as CEO and Sweta Girinatham as CFO from Tata Technologies, while Oliver Scheickl is the COO of Automotive Software, and Stefan Flader is the COO of Business IT from the BMW Group.
