BYD Achieves Record Sales of 419,426 NEVs in September, Marking a 45.91% Increase Year-on-Year

BYD continued its impressive growth trajectory in September, achieving record sales driven primarily by robust demand for its hybrid models. The company reported sales of 419,426 new energy vehicles (NEVs) last month, marking the fourth consecutive month of record highs.

This figure represents a significant increase of 45.91% compared to the 287,454 units sold in September 2023, and a 12.42% rise from August’s sales of 373,083 units.

Since ceasing production and sales of internal combustion engine vehicles in March 2022, BYD has shifted its focus to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). In September, BYD sold 417,603 passenger NEVs, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 45.56% and a 12.61% rise from August.

The company’s commercial NEVs contributed 1,823 units to the total, showcasing a remarkable year-on-year increase of 230.85%, although this figure represents a 12.21% decline from August.

Breaking down the sales further, BYD sold 164,956 passenger BEVs in September, a 9.1% increase year-on-year and an 11.1% rise from the previous month. Meanwhile, the company achieved record sales of 252,647 passenger PHEVs, up 86.17% from last year and 13.61% from August.

On the international front, BYD sold 33,012 vehicles in overseas markets, marking a 17.74% increase from the previous year and a 4.96% rise from August.

In addition to its status as China’s largest NEV manufacturer, BYD is also the country’s second-largest power battery producer. The company’s installed base of power and energy storage batteries reached approximately 19.8 GWh in September, up 38% year-on-year and a 5.06% increase from August.
